DJ Dennis Sebayan at therapy-NYC 01/30/2009

I'm back at therapy tonight, and I'm really amped because there is a lot of great dance music coming out that I'll be playing. Expect an eclectic mix and a great looking crowd! Last time it got so packed they had to pull out the velvet ropes to manage the crowd on the sidewalk. I am determined to deliver once again.

Swayzak Reissue "Snowboarding in Argentina"

One of my favorite electronic groups from the late '90s, Swayzak, have reissued their amazing 1998 album Snowboarding in Argentina. It was edited, remastered and compiled from their seperate UK and US releases. According to legend, these two guys used a 2MB Akai Sampler, Atari Computer, a cheap durm machine and a couple of analog synths. What resulted is a timeless classic not so far off from the deep minimalism around today. Ahead of its time, yet a timestamp of dance music in the late '90s - deep tech-house and electronica with dub undertones, all held together by ambient soundscapes.

DJ Dennis Sebayan at therapy 01/02/2009

Tonight, I'll be at one of my favorite venues to DJ in New York City, therapy (http://www.therapy-nyc.com/). I've been a regular guest DJ there since 2006. I'm playing from 9pm-3am. Known for its good looking crowd, great music and stiff drinks, therapy has become a Hell's Kitchen institution.

From Time Out New York:

"Drinks like the Freudian Sip (Ketel One Citron, fresh ginger and lemonade), served in a nice big tumbler, are sure to leave you feeling blissfully worry-free at this cocktailcentric space. But it’s the impressive venue that draws young neurotics: two levels of slate floors connected by a dramatic staircase, crowned with a massive skylight. Mellow pop, house and techno play at the perfect level, allowing for both conversation and grooving."

Christian Smith *Best of 2008* + Link to Live Mix at MOS

Hailing from Sweden, Christian Smith has become a techno-house mainstay. Last year he continued to surprise us with truly next level tracks such as "Flyertalk/Friendly Skies" on Bedrock and the Smith and Selway remix of Kevin Saunderson "Rock to the Beat." Carl Cox has just made Christian Smith his final Hero Of 2008. Listen to Cox’s last Global Radio Show of 2008 (26th Dec) to hear an exclusive guest mix from Christian.

Christian Smith & John Selway’s "Total Departure" (Drumcode) is one of the biggest tunes of the year around the globe...DMC Update Buzz Chart have named it the No.1 Buzz Chart Tune Of 2008; and DJ Magazine have featured it in their most explosive Top 10 Pure Club Killers Of 2008 feature, commenting: “With it’s constantly ascending keyboard whoosh, this was a peak-time, rushing dose of vertiginous euphoria. Feel the vertigo!”

Here is a link to Christian Smith's recent set at Ministry Of Sound, London, on Saturday 18th October. According to Smith, it was one of his best moments in 2008.
